AgentRank automatically detects competing brands in your tracked prompts — you don’t need to manually specify who your competitors are. Any brand that appears in AI responses to your prompts is tracked.

How competitor detection works

Every time AgentRank runs a simulation for your prompts, it records all brands mentioned in the AI’s response — not just yours. These detected brands become your competitor set automatically. Competitors are grouped by detection state:
StateMeaning
ActiveCurrently appearing in your prompts with recent detections
EmergingNewly detected — starting to appear in your results
DecliningVisibility dropping across recent tracking runs
InactiveNot detected in recent runs

What’s tracked per competitor

For each competitor, AgentRank tracks:
  • Share of Voice — their share of total appearances across your prompt set
  • Avg. Rank — their average position in results where they appear
  • Visibility — the percentage of your prompts where they appear
  • Detection trend — whether they’re gaining or losing ground over recent runs
This gives you a clear view of the competitive landscape: who dominates, who’s growing, and where the gaps are.

Using competitor data

Identify your primary threat. The competitor with the highest Share of Voice in your most important topic is your benchmark. Their position is your target. Watch for emerging brands. New competitors entering your prompt set at high positions can signal a content or catalog move worth investigating. An Emerging competitor appearing at rank 1 or 2 on multiple prompts is a signal to act quickly. Find prompts they win that you don’t. The prompt table lets you filter by competitor to see exactly which queries they’re capturing. These are your highest-priority visibility gaps.
On the Pro plan, the competitive gap analysis in the Analysis section shows why each competitor outranks you on specific prompts — with Authority, Relevance, and Readiness breakdowns.

Competitor lifecycle

Competitor rankings shift constantly as brands update their product data, earn new reviews, and build editorial coverage. AgentRank tracks these changes continuously so you always have a current picture of the competitive landscape — not a one-time snapshot.
